Beauty: The Inside of Ingrowns New Product Launches

Many women suffer from something we rarely talk about. In grown hairs. It's something we often leave up to our waxer to deal with when we see her or we take it in our own hands for a painful extraction. Some are more prone than others, and those that suffer I promise will be thanking the beauty gods for an answer. A new product completely designed and developed by skin guru, Daniela of Daniela's Facial studio has done it again. She solved a huge problem for many women. Women who love lace and skinny jeans!  Daniela is offering $5 off for PrivyDoll readers, see more details on this amazing product and check out her site for a free sample size!
About the product: Daniela has invented a revolutionary new approach to the pesky problem of ingrown hairs along the bikini line, especially bothersome since the advent of skinny jeans, thong underwear and lace panties, along with those awful butt and thigh breakouts that say, "you sit way too much at your job".

Many clients are raving about this product in a series of trials the feedback was stunning she says.

What it is exactly :  An anti-inflammatory body powder, dusted on affected areas every day before getting dressed and once again before vigorous activity such as working out or lots of walking or running. Some people also find that a mid-day application during work hours with long-term sitting is very helpful.  It's called FerroRosa FrictionFix (TM) - Ferro meaning iron, Rosa meaning pink. The iron oxides in two of the major ingredients give this amazing powder its pink color as well as its anti-inflammatory properties.

What it does :  Provides a barrier between your clothes and your skin that is both anti-inflammatory and protective at the same time, healing what is already there, preventing what would be there.  Absorbs moisture, calms irritation, reduces redness and prevents friction with a proprietary blend of calamine, zinc oxide, corn starch and clay.

What's the catch :  It must be used every day for real results, and it's really, really pink. It can come off on clothes, but it will not stain.

What's it cost :  4oz full size bottle is $20,  1oz travel size jar is $7.    Just for Privy Doll  readers, $5 off your first order. Discount code : privydoll. This discount applies for any other purchase from the web site as well.

Beauty: Best Bronzers

It has been a very, very, very, did I mention VERY, long winter PrivyDolls. Its the days like these that the weather is participating in our happiness of sun shining and highs hitting higher. The off days that we are able to show our bare legs again are here and for many its a sad, pale story. We are trying to skip the smelly self tanning and if Miami isn't in your close future try some of my favorite (I promise) products to give you a very soft, make up bronze for the rare chance a night out includes bare legs and some extra skin before summer hits. These products are truly found in my makeup cabinet and felt I should share my favorites.

My secret for traveling bronze: Michael Kors Roll Stick. This product is a bit hard to find but looks like a deoderant that is used for a very light shimmer that leaves the original Kors perfume scent behind. LOVE! I roll it a few times on my legs and arms before heading out. A smear proof product with just a hint of sheen and perfect for on the go.

Tarte also has a roll on product in a smaller size which also has a scent. a fresh fruitier scent with a bit richer bronze comes along with this roll on bronzer. This product is a great one to throw in your purse and found at Sephora.

I also have two favorite lotion bronzers that I adore. Note these are not self tanners. They do come off with a towel or sweat off in a hot day and will immediately come off in the shower. These are for a nice glow when you head out to give your skin a natural extra shimmer.
Mac shimmer lotion is a small tube with a lot of kick. Use a dab of it after primer on her face along cheek bones for a nice shimmer before adding your blush.
Victoria Secret also has a great garden collection that includes their top scented lotions in a sparkle version. High intensity bronze btw. It often leaves your palms extra dark, so remember to wash/scrub your hands after. But since this is just a lotion it comes off very easy. Great scents and easy to find.  Stay golden PrivyDolls!!

Beauty: Vixen Lips are In

Red lips are an important part of this spring's trend. You captured 'the look' but don't forget the make up. red Lips are key for an ultra- vixen spring look. There are so many shades to choose from so its key to try them before taking the red leap. I do like a little more of a salmon/orange tints in my red lipstick if you have olive skin or a nice tan. If you have the snow white look- stick to Gwen Stefani's signature hue. I am really loving the muted red shades you see on the runway this season. Instantly chic and put together.
So many choices out there like above, here are some Privy finds. If you want classic red, you can't go wrong with YSL found at Sephora.
Beyonce endorses Revlon's red lipstick and claims it lasts all day. For $7.99 I would like to take it for a test run. So spread some red the season and let the inner vixen come out in spring time!

Beauty: Feather Locks

One trend that has been seen on the red carpet, to Hollywood scarlets to your neighborhood, chic hair stylists are feather extensions. Go Pocahontas with this low commitment trend. The choices are endless. Peacock, thin colorful strands- just choose a color and similar to hair extension processes with glue or clamp, a string of feathers are strategically placed. The process takes moments and will grow out as your hair grows. Glue one underneath much of your hair for a quick glimpse when you do a pony tail or has a peek through during a hair toss. You can wash it normally and even curl it. Many salons are offering this trendy addition some may charge up to $100 for a few strands. Ask your local trendy salon for details.

For a drastic rocker inspiration with feathers you can of course tune into American Idol to see Steve Tyler's heavy feather do. I suggest a subtle touch. If you are commitment phob you can also purchase clip in extensions if you rather put in and out. I found a variety of choices ranging from $18-$35 on Etsy. Check out one of the best choices Here. Take Flight PrivyDolls!

Beauty: Bikini Line Blunders

So you have the new suit, you are even contemplating wearing it on that vacation coming up or the first day of the weather snapping into summer zone. One thing you can't forget or ignore is the bikini line. PrivyDoll wrote about skimpy swim line, 1SolSwim this week and a wax is definitely in order to rock it. PrivyDoll brought in the master. Daniela, our go-to skin care and wax professional to answer questions. Some are more prone to Ingrown hairs on the bikini line.  What kind of ingrowns you get makes a difference when it comes to how to get rid of them. Daniela, owner of Daniela's Facial Studio in Chicago knows the difference and she knows how you get them and how to get rid of them.

First thing's first: How you get them.

"Ingrown hairs are basically caused by three things. One, skin being pulled while shaving, causing hair to point in the wrong direction when it starts to grow. It grows instead into the skin and the body thinks it's an invader. It goes to war and boom, major zit with a hair inside."

Second, friction from clothes that have any kind of texture, like denim, or lace or mesh underwear. You walk around or exercise with these textures rubbing constantly, your skin responds as your pores get more and more irritated, and the hair can't come through the swelling. Some of the worst cases of ingrowns I've seen have been on people who wear thong or go commando with jeans.

Third, pressure from tight clothes worn while sitting, whether in a car for long periods or cross legged at your desk."

What are the different kinds of ingrowns ?
"From irritation, small or large red bumps with or even without a hair inside. These are the ones that hurt like hell whether you squeeze them or not. They very often get infected. The remedy is to calm the skin with a combination of Salicylic Acid, anti-inflammatory products (not hydrocortisone, though, that thins the skin over time), using corn starch to absorb moisture (talc is not good for us down there !), and wearing only smooth cotton underwear that covers all affected areas at all times (sorry, ladies).

From pressure, bumps that look like large blackheads that occasionally get red, that only hurt when you squeeze them. The stuff that comes out is actually blackhead material. The remedy for these is a combination of Benzoyl Peroxide which you can experiment with in either a wash or a topical lotion, exfoliation every shower with a pair of exfoliating spa gloves (the poofy "loofa" thing isn't enough and scrubs can't get everywhere and can lead to irritation because they're too scratchy), Alpha Hydroxy Acid either gel or lotion in a concentration of 10-15% (remember only 10% or less can be used on the face), and wearing only smooth cotton underwear that covers all affected areas at all times (sorry again, ladies)."

So as you can see, if you go to a derm doc and you're told it's from waxing, wrong answer. It's either shaving or your clothes. For more info, go to Daniela's web site to read more and check out her amazing products here : http://www.daniela.com/All_About_Ingrown_Hairs.html. You can even order samples to see how it goes, all you pay is shipping (if you're ordering only one or two samples, you can email Daniela and she'll send 'em out at no charge). Enter Discount Code "Privydoll" at checkout and get $5 off your first order ! If you make an appointment in her Chicago location, tell her PrivyDoll sent you!

Beauty: All in One Sponge

A new product has made its way into many showers. Spongeables is a multi use (barsoap meets loufa) product that helps exfoliates while it lathers up. Just add water and this strong sponge will scrub away. The line has extended to children's and an anti-cellulite sponge, along with a mens line which was published today as well!  When you think of a sponge, you may think soft, flimsy but this spongeable is not the case. You can pick up a Spongeable at Ulta, Walmart, Rite Aid and their Site and try it yourself.

Some real PrivyDolls tried out this new product and overall the ladies of PrivyDoll enjoyed it! Check out their reviews below!
"The product was good. It produced a good amount of lather and the exfoliating side was good for feet but a little too rough for the rest of my skin. I thought the lavender scent was nice but i wouldn't consider it to be aromatherapy and it overall didn't have a strong scent."

"The exfoliater anti cellulite side was nice but not sure how it can help cellulite. It had a nice scene but I did miss miss my super girly, stronger smelling washes I normally use. I would recommend this as strictly an exfoliater."

"I tried the the toddler version and my daughter thought it was fun. it lasted a number of times which was a surprise and didn't loose its shape. I would suggest a tear-free and smaller shapes if it would be used on a toddler."

Beauty:Backstage at Katie Gallagher Fashion Week

Katie Gallagher is known for very avant garde looks. Last night at Milk Studios her showcase lived up to the name, but the makeup was the star. The collection was dark, but not as dark as the heavy eye make up that turned these models into Gothic rock stars. The zombie look fit the very black on black collection. Makeup designer, Javier Romero was the mastermind behind the makeup. Artist used MAC makeup to achieve the creative direction of the collection.

Beauty: Salmon on my Lips 2011

photos by Style.com
Milan Spring 2011 fashion shows have wrapped up and I couldn't help but notice an on going spring trend: salmon lipstick. Bright lipcolor stained the lips of many top models in show like Fendi and Alice +Olivia. Pink/Orange colored lips were vibrant and complimented many of the gem toned and orange focus many designers showcased for spring. Stock up on your orange lips before spring because PrivyDolls will be ahead of this trend! Try Sephora's Brand lipstick in 'IT GIRL' for $12 to acheive this kissable trend.

Beauty: Celeb new fragrances

Celebrities are no stranger to the fragrance world but two big names have been reported launching their first fragrance in the fall. Katy Perry is to launch a perfume, Purr at Nordstrom in the fall which she dreams of one day being the next Elizabeth Taylor. Lady Gaga also has been reported this week to be launching  a fragrance. Maybe to be called? Lil Monsters- just my guess. Look for both fragrances in the fall just in time for holiday shopping !

Beauty: Tan like a pro

Summer is here. We have been blessed with quite a few high 80s and 90 degree weather days already. I hope it is just starting. With that being said, it is important that PrivyDolls protect themselves as they get some ultimate exposure to the sun's rays. There are a few key things to remember:

1) Always wear sunscreen. Luckily, many moisturizers and foundations you normally use have SPF. Make sure it does and re apply in the sun.
2) Always wear sunglasses. I personally don't want to get squint lines but more importantly you can get sun damage on your eyes.
3)  protect your hair color and scalp with a hat or scarf when laying out. We spend a lot on hair coloring and highlights. Sun immediately changes the pigments, and can fade or turn the color a bit blonder or more orange depending. It also protects your scalp from getting sun burn.

Don't forget the sunscreen is the number one priority. With that, here are a few of my favorites.
Philosophy has a oil free SPF lotion called Hope. Found at Sephora for $45.

I also love this great find, Island Company (known for their bikinis) have launched a sunscreen line. Check out this one that is SPF 6. All of their lines come in minis, which are great for traveling. Try this one for $17.95 and found on their site, HERE.

PrivyDolls spend a lot on their hair color. Make sure you use a protective spray before you head outdoors and to the beach. This one found at Ulta for $22 is a great choice.

For those that are tech savvy sun bathers check out this site and also their APP that can calculate the sun, and how long you should be out there due to your skin type and UV rays.

Beauty: Hot Bun Trend

Whether it be a day you have unruly hair or you just don't have the time to style it, putting your hair up in a bun is the easy solution for a modern up do for day or night. Celebs have been wearing buns on the red carpet all year long. Braided buns have been spotted all over Hollywood and the runways which are a bit harder to do yourself but is hippie-cool. Privydolls are always looking for a tool to make our hair styling easier. Goody has come up with one of the best tools I have seen in a long time! Spin-pins by Goody is a spiral screw shape tool that takes the place of about 20 hairpins.
Step 1) Brush your hair out, hold outward and twist  your hair

Step 2) Twist it low or high on your head, wherever you want to the bun to be placed.

Step 3) Secure the bun with screwing the Spin-pin into the bun on the top. If your hair is thicker or curly you will only have to use one pin. If you have very, thin hair you may need two pins one on top one on bottom.

The Goody Spin- Pin can be found at CVS, Target, Amazon, or Walgreens and many more retailers for about $6!

BEAUTY: The Shiny Truth of Macadamia

When a PrivyDoll finds something that changes their beauty routine one must dish. I received a sample at this year's Midwest Beauty show of the new Macadamia Nut Natural Oil hair masque and oil treatment. I cannot stop raving about this product. I am a fan of their competitor, Moraccan Oil. The smell of Macadamia masque is so consuming I couldn't stop getting a wiff of my locks hours after the treatment. It left my hair amazingly shiny, soft and the ends sealed for about two days. I used the Masque before the shower on damp hair and the oil after a shower before blow drying. The oil smells as great as the masque and really seals in the shine before adding heat. The line is available in some salons and on their website. I love that they also sell 1oz size, great for trial and traveling. Your hair is just $28 away from a body lift. Check out the site for all their products at: www.macadamiahair.com and in stores at Ulta.

BEAUTY: Prasada Beauty Line

PrivyDolls strive for the perfect, soft skin and we fell in love with the beauty line, Prasada beauty. This line although only available on their website, www.prasadabeauty.com but will soon be sold into boutiques starting in South Florida. The fresh, pure ingredients come through not only in the smell but the feel of the products on your skin. I used the She Body Butter which the smell was the a spa-like smell, which is just lovely and pure. We caught up with the owner to ask a few questions about the line and the miracle ingredients.

PrivyDoll: I noticed that in the Shea Body Butter that Red Marine Algae is used. What are the beauty benefits?

Lisa Sheppard of Prasada: "Marine algae is a wonderful ingredient used in our very creamy Shea Body Butter. It's a natural source of anti-oxidant which helps to fight off free radicals
and maintain skin elasticity. It helps to firm, heal and repair damaged skin.
By the way, red marine algae has been used since 600 BC in China as a general medicine or tonic, with anti-viral properties. So it has immune- enhancing benefits both orally and for the skin."
PrivyDoll: What two pieces of advice would you give women about skin care?
LS: " 1: Use sunscreen religiously and 2: pay serious attention to what goes "IN" the body.......how you eat! We have a wonderful collection of skincare products for sure, but the nutritional basis and content of  your diet is KEY for the true care of your skin. You can checkout on the website our special Beauty Tip section which is actually a very comprehensive mini-tutorial in complete care of yourself: mind, body, and spirit."
Privy Doll:  There has been some buzz about the product, Sheswai Nail Lacquer. You are now selling it on your website. Where did you find it and why is it better than other salon brands?

LS: "I've been interested and have researched proper and effective nail care for many years so I was thrilled to discover in an email from super-stylist Rachel Zoe ( The Zoe Report) that she recommended Sheswai Nail Lacquer. I contacted Debbie Leavitt, the creator of the polish at Sheswai in LA and then became a seller of the polish on the website.
It's really a GREAT polish: The 7 very stylish colors are long lasting; it has  an excellent professional applicator brush (VERY important); its an eco-conscious polish in that it is FREE of toluene, formaldehyde and DPB's; and the bottle caps are made from sustainably harvested wood.  Finally the bottle and the screened design are really lovely!

Check out all of Prasada's beauty line including scrubs, body butter, anti aging creams, sun protection and much more! The  products are great and prices are fabulous!  www.prasadabeauty.com
