Insider Fashion: Make Your Own Street Style

For as long as I know, runway styles eventually make their way to the street in a tamed, more subtle, wearable way. Key word: eventually. Street style has influenced the runway in the past seasons and now is hitting mainstream retail. The Brooklyn meets LA style can be easily accomplished and can also allow you to express your style with picking items you love and feel good in. Think hipster meets Tokyo style in a world where stripes and plaid could potentially work. We want to share a Privy find: H&M has a unique ‘make your own street style’ element. INSIDER INTERVIEW: Alexis Mincolla of PROMETHEUS SPRINGS

Privy Doll interviews Alexis Mincolla, co-owner of Prometheus Springs, a new product- unlike any liquid you have tasted before. The brand is as unique as the man behind the brand. Alexis is well known for the Overthrow Miami parties and snuff films featuring slaying of Miami scenesters. Alexis and PS assisted in  growing the hipster market in a very bikini model driven town. Now in NYC, Alexis is doing what he does best including throwing great events, parties and launching a unique product that has caught the eye of many and is now  found in many Whole Foods Markets. This exclusive interview will give you insight to the man behind the juice. We, at Privy Doll LOVE Prometheus Springs and want you to be part of this PRIVY find!

INSIDER Interview:  Alexis Mincolla

 Label/Company Name:

Prometheus Springs

3 words to describe your brand:

Intelligent, Intrepid, and Original

Your style is extremely unique how does your style influence your work?

I’m not sure I’d say that my style influences my work but rather my psyche influences all of my output, whether that be my style or work.  All my projects are ultimately just extensions of my personality and if you see my website I think this comes apparent. www.alexismincolla.com

We often ask our style setters what products they can’t live without, in your case I suppose it is the product that keeps your mustache so perfect, what is your secret?

A protractor, a scientific calculator and a razor blade forged from the swords of dead kings… Seriously.

What is your inspiration for Prometheus Springs? And who is its consumer?

My inspiration for Prometheus Springs comes from none other but Prometheus himself. He was a titan whole fearlessly stole fire from Zeus and beneficently gave it to all mankind. That’s pretty much how we feel at PS feel about harnessing Mother Nature’s fiery capsaicin extracts and providing it to everyone with our tasty organic drink.

As far as our consumers go, I like to think of them as the type of people who unapologetically explore their world.

Favorite place for brainstorming and daydreaming?

I’d have to say any places near water. My mind tends to set sail when I’m near the ocean so I do my best to stay close.

You were known in Miami for your OverThrow Miami parties which included videos of a mini saga starring you. CLICK HERE  How do you describe the mini videos created in bathrooms at clubs and can we expect more?

Ah yes the infamous bathroom murder series. For me it was just a tongue and cheek way of poking fun at the Miami nightlife scene that had got rather stale. I simply wanted to stir things up with some creativity and controversy. So I came up with the idea of being a sort of “scene killer” and literally started staging faux murders at a run down night club on South Beach. I told myself I’d only do it for one year and in that time I killed about 50 or so of Miami’s most influential people in some really strange and funny ways. As far as expecting more goes… I’ve been advised by attorney Samuel Baum to neither confirm nor deny the possibility of me killing more people in the future.

Can we look forward to more flavors ? and more brand extensions?

Of course, we have about 12 other flavors in development right now but those are cards we keep close to our chest.  The trade secrets of our modern alchemy aren’t to be shared with all unfortunately.

Favorite Alcoholic drink recipe with PS:

The Spicy Lychee  Mojito

     2 oz. Light Rum
4 oz Prometheus Springs Lychee Wasabi
     Top with Club Soda
     2 wedges Lime + 3 pieces Mint

And lastly, spill the Privy find:

I’d first check out your local Whole Foods or just consult our store list here:
and for the nocturnal spice lovers out there check out:
http://www.theoverthrow.com/ because we have PS at all our events.

Spring 2010 Trend: Exaggerated Shoulders

Women have come along way in business but in the 1980’s shoulder pads in suiting was a form of power and an important element to appear to be one of the men in the office as women broke the glass ceiling one shoulder padded suit at a time. But Shoulder pads were first worn in the 1940’s with style setters like Joan Crawford. Flash forward to 2010 and from the runway to Gossip Girl, exaggerated shoulders, shoulder accents and shoulder pads have made their way to the street. For Spring 2010, Shoulders are as broad as ever! Shoulder pads have appeared in suiting to T-shirts. This trend is also great for making a waist appear smaller and altering your silhouette to a modern yet  80’s flashback. The subtle detail can make your outfit stand out.  Functional shoulder pads are manageable in a basic T- shirt like below, found on ShopBop, There are searches with pages of shoulder padded finds on  luxury shopping sites like Luisaviaroma.com.

Lily Allen Quits Music for Fashion

“I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don't care about clever I don't care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them

And I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
Cause everyone knows that's how you get famous
I'll look at The Sun and I'll look in The Mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm onto a winner”

Do the lyrics to Allen’s song, “The Fear” from her latest album foreshadow her need for earnings and the triumphant curse of the industry? After her very vocal fight about music piracy, Lily has blogged and tweeted her concerns and complaints about the turn of the music industry as a whole. This may have been a result why her latest album had disappointing record sales. Allen quotes, “The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I’m concerned.” There have been rumors Allen is quitting the music business all together to pursue a fashion line. Maybe her line will consist of fuzzy animal costumes like the ones she has worn on stage or a T-shirt line that would have cigarette burns and signs of whiskey sipping. Her battle is ongoing with the British Government. If you haven’t been exposed to this spitfire Brit star who sings lyrics like a teen truck driver but has a voice that fits her barely 23 body make sure you buy her album not download it from a free site!

Spring 2010 Trend: White on White

Spring 2010 Trends: White on White

Ditch the spring florals and the standard nautical spring gear. Spring 2010 showcased white on white. Keeping with the ‘80s influence, and using geometric shapes take suiting to another level which was seen in designer such as Calvin Klein and Hermes and many more. You can accomplish this look easily with pairing structured jackets with fitted trousers. Don’t be afraid to let the menswear trend carry over to this white on white appeal. You can easily brighten up any spring day with a fresh white outfit, but offset the monochromatic outfit with a slash of color with a bag or accessory for a street wear feel.

For items to grow your white on wardrobe, pick items like this White Rouched Collared Jacket from whitehouseblackmarket.com. This newly arrived jacket would be a great, versatile item for Spring2010 and for $148 a great piece for weekend and office. A great pick for a white pencil skirt for Spring is this one from BEBE.com for $79 this Safari high waisted skirt is complimentary to a suiting jacket.
