Fashion Radar: Is it a Scarf or a Hood?

Snood. A word that was developed to describe the scarf meets hood, infinity scarf trend. I adore this trend because it is the must have fall essential to not only modernize your wardrobe but also is a great piece to hide under when the wind and rain hits. Simply take one of the rolls and place it over your head all the while keeping the scarf still in place. Genius. Many designers and stores are selling these snoods and PrivyDoll wanted to bring you some of the top picks on a budget.

Try this simple, cablenet snood from NastyGal for $28.

If you are looking for cozy go - to snood check out this one from Asos for $37

PrivyDoll found this PiperLime exclusive for $29! and comes in a few colors.

Entertainment: Fashion Blogger Breakfast with Gilt Groupe Founder

PrivyDoll had the pleasure of being invited to an intimate breakfast with the founder of Gilt Groupe, Alexandra Wilkis Wilson on Friday at the Penninsula in Chicago. Tyler Thoreson, Director of Gilt Man also accompined Alexandra and had a great informal presentation of where the brand is going and the exciting news of expansion including Gilt City. For those PrivyDolls that have been living under a fashion rock, Gilt Groupe is an invitation- only shopping site which has turned into a one stop shopping site for women's, kids, mens, gifts, housewares and even trips. Today alone you can find deep discounted items from American Apparel, Alexander Wang and jewelry by Jacob & Co. to name a few. If that is not a one stop site I don't know what is. Besides having fabulous pieces every day and each item comes flawless and neber been tried on, the customer service I experienced as a member has been outstanding. PrivyDoll has written about this site in the past and was excited to get a chance to talk with Wilson about the products she brings in. Wilson made it clear that Gilt Groupe understands the "power of the blogger" and wants the community to be involved with feedback and assisting their demographic. All I can say is, this is one reason they have taken over the online shopping world.  THEY GET IT. They now have over 3 million members and Alexandra says they still are doing a lot of testing and growing. They test to see if housewares would work, if candles etc for their members.
When I asked Wilson what separates Gilt from some of the other invitation- only shopping sites out there she said. "Creditability. We are selective on the brands we bring to our customers and we like to keep it special." I was curious about some of the products on the site are these 'old' left over pieces from a collection that didn't do well or where do the pieces come from that make it on the site? Her response was quite interesting. Some pieces may be a couple months old however they make it on the site at a very relating more realistic time for shoppers. For instance there are boots and jackets on there now for fall and technically that is what the average PrivyDoll is shopping for right now going into Fall. Some pieces from designers collections are negotiated ahead of time with commitments from the designers but wont make it live until the items already hit the stores as well. For your invite to shop on this fabulous designer discount site click HERE. PrivyDoll invites you to join her in being a fan for life!

Entertainment: Fashion Focus Chicago Recap

On Tuesday, October 19th Macy presented Chicago's Fashion Focus Spring 2011 Preview show. Thirteen designers showcased mini previews of their upcoming lines for 400 VIPs in Millennium Park. The white tent set up right in the middle of the park was an extravagant set up for Chicago and was extremely impressed by production as we sipped on cocktails by Ciroc. All the fashion scenesters arrived in Chicago. Over 400 VIP and media had seats inside the tent. This was just the first of the week's shows to round up Fashion Focus Chicago 2010. Events also included fundraising shows for charities, shopping pop up stores and presentations of accessories and even a vintage shopping experience. PrivyDoll was apart of the media for the Fashion Incubator show on Tuesday.

Designs by Kristin Hassan included retro polka dot inspired dresses and ruffles which was one of my favorite collections of the night with exaggerated headbands which I saw as a Spring 2011 trend.

The one lingerie designer of the evening, Dottie's Delight showed vintage styled yet modern pieces. The pinks and champagne colors were adorable and the 'special occasion' stylings included girdles, garters and mad men top hats. This piece was the Champagne silk bra with brown antique lace and matching 9-panel girdle.
A men's line that stood out in the night was Nonnie Threads. A meanswear line that seemed 'uniform' ish with muted colors and a military feel. The remix of "Acapalla" by Kelis played and the men strutted the runway with jackets, slim pants.

Anna Hovet brought back the fun in athletic wear. the jersey cuts in the entire collection were so wearable and very mixable. I call this 'spandex for the street'. My favorite piece was a pair of black leggings that had a braid swirling down the leg. MUST HAVE. Big hipster eyeglasses were on each model and the line looked so fresh and unique.

More pics from the show!

Fashion Radar: Where is Your Prada Made?

Prada's distinctive label is being transformed. A limited edition collection that will include items made in different countries that will include a label ' PRADA Made In ___" will make Prada a leader in global innovation.  In an age of globalization this initiative is not only trendsetting within the Prada family but also sets an example to other brands out there. Prada has always had an eye on excellence and  inpeckable taste. This project is no different. They have sought after other perfectionists in regions where they can produce a unique, product. The traditional craftsmanship that comes through each of these products is specific to the materials and manufacturing to that region. Look for these specific collections:

Fashion Radar: Snuggle Fest

It is about that time of year when all we want to do is throw on a comfy cozy sweater when we leave the house. PrivyDolls still do that but have mastered a way to do it in a way that is stylish. Boxy sweaters are out. Make sure you have a skinny belt or tie to show your waist and pair it with a skinny jean or pant always. Take note from Dolce and Gabbana's Fall 2010 collection of Aspen- inspired chunky sweaters made stylish. We are still loving the wrap sweater for fall and and also the rounded hemline sweaters . I found some of the best out there to keep cozy this fall and winter.

Wrap sweater from Asos $101

Snuggly cardigan from ShopNastyGal for $40

DG inspired sweater from Forever 21 for $29

Entertainment: Spin Crowd's Lauren Talks Privy

Spin Crowd's finale premiered last night on E! and we loved every second of this season. Spin crowd follows celeb agency, Command PR in their LA office as they help their celebrity clients promote themselves and the products they endorce. Events, and drama fills the episodes along with the bigger than life personality of the owners and the four bombshell colleagues. Privydoll caught up with E!'s Spin Crowd's PR girl, Lauren to get the dish on the show and of course some privy stories that didn't make it into this season. Enjoy this exclusive interview just for PrivyDoll Blog.

PrivyDoll: The Spin Crowd has been a success on E! after the Kardasians. In every reality show they often have characters. I feel like they have portrayed you as the bitchy one. Is it that you just didn't like the girls you work with ?

Lauren: "I like the girls I work with. They all bring something different to the table, although I have to admit they all get on my nerves from time to time. I like to work effecently and I like to be scarcastic but I hate gossip and drama  so there's a lot of conflict."

PrivyDoll: You got to work with a lot of celebrities and grow their brands. What was your favorite one and was there a crazy moment that didn't make it on the show?
Lauren: "I loved Kelly Rowland. She is amazing. One thing that got cut was her telling me with her cute southern accent , "girl, you got a Biscut!" This means good bootie that pops!"

PrivyDoll: One of my favorite episodes is with Mario Lopez and the scene of you chasing him down to show some abs for your tanning client. What were you thinking while chasing him around, and did you really get a feel of Lopez's abs?

Lauren: " I was thinking of a raise when I chasing Mario! And trying not to die of embarassment! Jonathan is ridiculous to request that! I gave it a shot tho!"

PrivyDoll: Although they played the scene of you driving over speed bumps fast and caused coffee to spill all over your colleague that lead her to freak out and have a melt down, was that a bit intentional? She does seem like she would be fun to tease.

Lauren: "About the coffee... I asked her if she needed help, she was bitchy and said, no she could handel it. Anyone that's riding in a car with me knows I'm crazy driver. I  guess she couldn't handel It huh?" (in sarcastic tone.)

PrivyDoll: We hope there is a season 2. Is there any talk? And with or without season 2 what is next for you now that you got a taste of reality Tv?

Lauren: "Finale had A LOT of excitment!!! Wow!! It was an emotional ending and wrapping filming! Both bitter and sweet! Season 2 will hopefully happen! And if it does, no more holding back. Now I've had a taste of reality tv I'm a little less afrid. I was terrified before but wanted my job! Now I'm ready to have fun with it. People responded so well it makes me feel better about putting it out there! If we come bnack u can expect more outta my mouth that for sure! I was good at biting my tounge! "

Fashion Radar: Mr.and Mrs.Combat boot

What a Privy Find for both women and men! A fashion-forward shoe line that combines urban chic and function! I adore the men's combat boots and the women's wedge fold over boots that appear to have a worn denim look.  UES (Upper Echelon Shoes) has made headlines since 2005 when Steve Madden and Seth Campbell launched this new line, UES. The line is quite different then what you would see in a Steve Madden store. The intricate details, studding and raw materials , not to mention chain shoe laces make this line stand out. You can find this line on Zappos and in boutiques across the country. Check out their SITE for more information. Here are some of my favorites of the Winter 2010 collection.
Mens Combat boot $275

Mens Camo Sneaker $235

Women's Fold over boot $275

Fashion Radar: Very Fashionable, Vfish +Privy Discount

Privy Dolls, you can thank me later. This is a fabulous find in the city of Chicago but luckily their website opens doors for PrivyDolls everywhere to enjoy. The entire line of VFish is extremely wearable, versatile and COMFY! They have adorable, functional fall/winter dresses that appear edgy but when you slip them on you feel like you are wearing your favorite sweatshirt! Genius!  I am raving about their line of leggings. These leggings (choose a great color purple, grey or black) and appear to have 'normal leggings' on but the insides are extra thick and fuzzy. Love them for the winters ahead to wear under dresses and tunics and look stylish but be extra comfortable.

The line has great silhouettes that will flatter any body type with great necklines and empire waists. The simple embellishments of studs, and even a hooded dress makes this my  new favorite line! I adore this ruffle back detailed dress. You can really see the thick jersey material used in these dresses! V Fish is offering PrivyDolls readers 20% off their order on their WEBSITE  with Coupon Code "PRIVYDOLL. "

Entertainment: Fashionable Halloween

Not everyone likes to go to the party store and buy a costume in a bag. It also isn't cute to wear lingerie to the club on Halloween. Been there done that. Be more fashionable than a store bought kit costume. We know all PrivyDolls will be a sexy (blank) on Halloween.  Privydolls are much more creative than that. I practically did all the hard work for you and gathered up some fashionable accessories to go with something you may already have in your closet to spruce up and make a costume. I came across these lace cat ears from ASOS to turn your sexy , little black dress into a sexy cat costume. What an easy costume for $13.

Have a fringe dress from this year's fringe trend? Pair it with a headband like this and you are a fashionable flapper!

A Halloween trend this year will be mocking the jersey mini , Snookie. Acheiving this look will be as easy as pulling out your old 'Bump It' and 2 cans of hair spray. Rock an old club dress you thought you threw away years ago and triple layer the eye make up and you are set!

Another 'in the news' costume idea is dressing up as Elin, Tiger Woods's ex wife. Simply wear classic fitting clothes and possibly sunglasses with blonde hair. Put some fake divorce papers in your back pocket and complete the costume by carrying a golf club with you.
