Spring 2010 Trend: Exaggerated Shoulders

Women have come along way in business but in the 1980’s shoulder pads in suiting was a form of power and an important element to appear to be one of the men in the office as women broke the glass ceiling one shoulder padded suit at a time. But Shoulder pads were first worn in the 1940’s with style setters like Joan Crawford. Flash forward to 2010 and from the runway to Gossip Girl, exaggerated shoulders, shoulder accents and shoulder pads have made their way to the street. For Spring 2010, Shoulders are as broad as ever! Shoulder pads have appeared in suiting to T-shirts. This trend is also great for making a waist appear smaller and altering your silhouette to a modern yet  80’s flashback. The subtle detail can make your outfit stand out.  Functional shoulder pads are manageable in a basic T- shirt like below, found on ShopBop, There are searches with pages of shoulder padded finds on  luxury shopping sites like Luisaviaroma.com.
